Human-Computer Interaction as a research field is ever expanding. The traditional focus on making computer use more user-friendly has now broadened towards all kinds of interactive systems, users, and contexts. There is also an increasing concern about the lack of design focus in HCI and its impact on the society.

In this seminar, we have a unique chance to hear several Nordic HCI stars presenting their views on the new frontiers of HCI research. These include societal and innovation topics, as well as new application domains of HCI.

Speakers:

• Kari Kuutti, University of Oulu, Finland
  Kari Kuutti is a professor in HCI and CSCW at the Department of Information Processing Science, leader of the INTERACT research group in University of Oulu. He is best known for his work promoting the use of Activity Theory in analyzing IT use and design. During the last decade he has been working in the intersection of interaction design, product design and intelligent urban space design.
• Mikael Wiberg, Umeå University, Sweden
  Mikael Wiberg is a professor in Informatics at the Department of Informatics, Umeå university, Sweden. He has held positions as chaired professor in HCI at Uppsala university and as Research Director at Umeå Institute of Design. His research is within the area of HCI and Interaction Design Research and most of his work is focused on the emerging interaction society, mobile HCI/CSCW, the materiality of HCI, and concept-driven approaches to HCI.
• Oskar Juhlin, Mobile Life Centre, Sweden
  Professor Oskar Juhlin is founder of the Mobile Life VinnExcellence Centre at Stockholm University. He has worked and published in the area of design oriented research for many years, contributing both with innovative systems and ethnographic studies of leisure practices. He is also chairman of the Shapecompanion company.
• Jan Gulliksen, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden
  Jan Gulliksen is a professor in Human Computer Interaction at KTH Royal Institute of Technology. He also holds the position as Dean of the School of Computer Science and Communication at KTH. In 2012, Jan was selected “Sweden’s Digital Champion” by the Swedish Government, and he is also Chairman of the Government’s Digital Commission.
• Olav Bertelsen, Aarhus University, Denmark
  Olav W. Bertelsen is an associate professor in computer science at Aarhus University, Denmark, working in the Computer Mediated Activities group and the center for Participatory IT. His research interests include: Foundations of Human-computer Interaction, Participatory Design in New Contexts, Therapeutic contexts, intimacy, designers process responsibility. User Interface Assessment Methods, Medical self measurement compliance, IT and democracy in the social housing sector.
